Related Procedures
Gallbladder problems affect thousands in the UAE. When surgery is needed, laparoscopic cholecystectomy offers faster recovery, less pain, and smaller scars.
What Is Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy?
This minimally invasive procedure removes the gallbladder through small incisions using a camera-guided laparoscope. Four small incisions (1-2 cm each) are made, and the gallbladder is removed without a large cut. Your body functions normally without it as bile flows directly from the liver.
When Is It Necessary?
- Gallstones causing pain (biliary colic)
- Inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis)
- Gallstones in the bile duct
- Large gallbladder polyps over 1 cm
The Procedure
The surgery takes 45-90 minutes under general anesthesia. Carbon dioxide gas inflates the abdomen. The laparoscope provides a magnified view. The surgeon detaches and removes the gallbladder through a small incision.
Recovery
Days 1-3: Rest with mild pain. Week 1: Return to light activities. Weeks 2-4: Gradual return to normal. After 4 weeks: Full recovery.
